University NetID Services: Now that you have a NetID

Note that these instructions are intended for Main Campus and Medical Center employees.

1. Initialize Your NetID Password

NetIDs are created without passwords for security reasons, so each password must be manually initialized. Please see Don't Know Your NetID Password for information on getting your password initialized.

Once you have a temporary password, go to https://netid-mgmt.georgetown.edu/passwd to create a permanent one.  Creating a permanent password triggers creation of the account required to log into a work station so do that before trying to log into the computer you will be using for work.

2. Set Your E-mail Routing

Setting your e-mail routing is a crucial step in establishing your GUMail account and preparing to use Blackboard. It also causes you to appear in the GUMail address book--important even if you are a GroupWise user. Log into the routing tool with your NetID and password to enter your destination address.

3. Prepare to Read Your GUMail

To read your GUMail from your computer, you will need to download an "e-mail client" through which to read the messages.

Note that the computer you inherited from your predecessor may already have an e-mail client installed. If so, you can go to the next step and create a profile.

4. Create a Profile

Establishing a profile in an email browser enables you to maintain address books, bookmarks, mail filters and other useful features. Step-by-step instructions for creating profiles in a number of browsers are available at Setting Up and Email Program on the GUMail site.

5. Set up GUCalendar

Setting up your Calendar requires two steps--downloading the program and enabling your Calendar. Links for each action are included on the GUCalendar page through the links Activate your GUCalendar account and Download Oracle Calendar.

Note that your computer may already have Oracle Calendar installed.

6. Enable your GUShare Account

GUShare is Georgetown's solution for sharing files. Go to the GUShare account acctivation tool to enable your account. More information on using GUShare and getting the most out of the program is available on the GUShare page

7. Update Your Telephone Display

To make changes to your telephone display, complete a voice service order (VSO).

8. Review Your Contact Information

Finally, you should log into Directory Access+ with your NetID and password to review your directory listing. Click on "Directory Services" once you have logged in. If information is missing or incorrect, contact the person whose name appears below your information. This directory coordinator can enter your phone extension, job title, and office location.

While you are in Access+, you can review your HR data to confirm that it has been entered correctly by clicking on Employee Services. If information is incorrect or incomplete, print out the page(s), mark the corrections and submit the page(s) to your department's HR contact.

9. Other Accounts

Blackboard and Faculty Access+ access are based on SIS and HR information but are set up automatically.  Web space, SIS, Genesys, PeopleSoft Admissions and PeopleSoft Financials require additional applications. See Administrative Applications for more information.

10. Get a GOCard

The GOCard is the official university identification card. Your GOCard is the primary means for gaining access to some buildings and services and it has a debit feature for purchasing many goods and services around campus. See the GOCard website for more information.
