University NetID Services: NetID-enabled Services for University AffiliatesNote that these instructions are intended for Main Campus and Medical Center Affiliates. 1. Initialize Your NetID Password NetIDs are created without passwords for security reasons, so each password must be manually initialized. Please see Don't Know Your NetID Password at the left for information on getting your password initialized. Once you have a temporary password, go to https://netid-mgmt.georgetown.edu/passwd to create a permanent one. Creating a permanent password triggers creation of the account required to log into a work station so do that before trying to log into the computer you will be using for work. For many short-term affiliates, receiving messages sent to your @georgetown.edu email address in your regular email account fulfills communication requirements. Setting an e-mail routing makes you appear in the University's email address book and able to use Blackboard. You can log into the email routing tool with your NetID and password to enter a non-Georgetown destination address (such as gmail or your email address at your home institution). Since there are a limited number of GUMail accounts available for affiliates, all requests are reviewed for necessity. A GUMail account can be requested for an affiliate if any of these conditions are met: 1) there is a business need whereby routing will not suffice 2) there is proof that an affiliate will handle confidential data 3) an employee's status is changing from staff/faculty to affiliate in a capacity where routing alone is not sufficient(the affiliated non-employee transaction form must also be completed) If you have a critical business need for GUMail, ask your departmental contact to request a GUMail account on your behalf by completing the GUMail Account Request form. Note that you cannot complete this request form yourself. Please allow 5-7 business days for the GUMail account to be provisioned and activated from the time you are contacted with additional instructions. 3. Set up GUCalendar Contact the Help Desk at 202-687-4949 to request access to Calendar. Setting up your Calendar requires two steps--downloading the program and enabling your Calendar. Links for each action are included on the GUCalendar page through the links Activate your GUCalendar account and Download Oracle Calendar. GUShare is Georgetown's solution for sharing files. Departments wanting GUShare access for affiliates must pay for space or request a free no-space account (which grants access to at department's share) using the GUShare Storage Space form. Go to the GUShare account acctivation tool to enable your account. More information on using GUShare and getting the most out of the program is available on the GUShare page. 5. Update Your Telephone Display To make changes to your telephone display, complete a voice service order (VSO). Finally, you should go to contact.georgetown.edu to review your directory listing. If the information is incomplete or inaccurate, log into GMS to update your name, phone extension, and office location. The HR Contact in your department can update your title in GMS. Blackboard and MyAccess access are based on Banner and HR information but are set up automatically. Web space, Banner, Cognos, GMS, PeopleSoft Admissions and PeopleSoft Financials require additional applications. See Administrative Applications for more information. 8. Get a GOCard The GOCard is the official university identification card. Your GOCard is the primary means for gaining access to some buildings and services and it has a debit feature for purchasing many goods and services around campus. See the GOCard website for more information. |
