Overview

The Virtual Desktop service enables Georgetown students, faculty, and staff to securely access various software applications at any time via the Internet from any computer on or off campus.
 

Technical Description 

The Virtual Desktop Infrastructure (VDI) running on VMware View v4.5 is the core virtual desktop deployment solution for Georgetown University. VDI provides reliable, portable, convenient, and secure environments for user desktops.

The clients can be Windows, Mac or Linux, desktops, laptops or thin clients. VMware View connection servers are load balanced behind an F5 cluster.

The View connection servers accept logins from clients and proxy connections to View desktops. VCenter is linked to the connection servers to manage the actual View desktop VMs. The View desktop VMs run on the Georgetown VSphere 4.0u2 virtual infrastructure.
 

Requesting the Enterprise File Storage Service

To sign up for the service, just complete the UIS Managed Services Questionnaire. Once we receive your completed questionnaire, UIS will set up a consultation with you to develop the right virtual desktop solution to fit your needs and requirements.
