Activate Your NetID Lab Account

As of July 2004, all computer in UIS computer labs use your NetID and password to log into Dell and Macintosh workstations. However, you need to activate your lab account and choose a strong password first. We strongly encourage you to do this at home before you arrive on campus.

A strong password is at least 8 characters long and contains at least one alphabet character (A-Z), one numeral character (0-9), and one other special character. See the Strong Password Guidelines for a more detailed explanation.

If Don't Have a Strong NetID Password Yet...

If you don't already have a strong NetID password, you will need to get one:

1. Go to the NetID Password Change page, and follow the instructions for changing your password.

Once you change your password, you're done. The password change process also activated your computer lab account.

If You Already Have a Strong NetID Password...

If you already have astrong NetID password, you still need to go through the NetID password change process to activate your lab account, but you can still keep your current password.

1. Go to the NetID Password Change page, and follow the instructions for changing your password. You will need to select a new, unique password for the "new password" fields. Try adding a new special character to your old strong password.
2. After you've changed your password in step 1, you can change it back if you choose. Just go to the NetID Password Change page and repeat the process in reverse. You may need to quit and restart your web browser to before making the second change.

Where Can You Do This?

You can change your password and activate your lab account from any computer with an Internet connection. If you are reading this page, why not do it now? We strongly encourage you to do this at home before you arrive on campus. However, you can also do this at designated kiosks in all of the computer labs and at the UIS Service Desk in St. Mary's G-39.

If you aren't able to complete the activation process, come to the UIS Service Desk in St. Mary's, Room G-39, with your GOCard for assistance.
