Printing From Your Mac Computer to a UIS Lab Printer

What You Need to Print to a Lab Printer

  • Computer running Mac OS 7.6 or higher
  • Internet access

Printing Instructions

  1. Open the Finder.
  2. Select System Preferences from the Apple menu.

  1. Double-click on Print & Fax.

  1. In the Print & Fax window, click on the plus sign button.

  1. Click on the IP Printer tab in the Print Browser window.
    1. Set Protocol to Line Printer Daemon - LPD.
    2. For Address, enter pharos-1.georgetown.edu
    3. For Queue, enter the name of the queue to which you are trying to print.

The Name and Location fields are for your reference to keep track of your printers and differentiate between multiple ones.

  1. For Print Using, select Generic Postscript Printer unless you have the correct printer model in the list of available drivers.

  1. Click Add. The lab printer will be added to your list of printers.

Click here for a list of Pharos lab printers and their corresponding queues.

Repeat this procedure to add more printers.

  1. Send your document to the lab printer.

When printing your document, simply choose the network printer you installed and go to that lab to retrieve your printout.

In the lab to which you sent your document for print, your document will be held under the name of your computer account along with the document name. For example, if you were logged in to the "Suzie" account on your computer and printed "My History Paper.doc," your document would be sent to the print station with the name Microsoft Word - My History Paper.doc with owner "Suzie."

  1. Print your document from the lab printer.

Go to the printer in the lab to which you sent your print job. When you swipe your GOCard at the top of the keyboard, you should see your print job in the queue labeled with the name of your computer or your NetID.

For additional help, follow the standard Pharos Printing Instructions.
