Computer Systems Acceptable Use Policy
Upon enrollment, you are bound by the Computer Systems Acceptable Use Policy and are responsible for reading the policy and adhering to it.
Copyright

Securing your Computer
Protecting your system from the start may save you time and money later; in addition, it will guarantee uninterrupted access to your computer, documents, and network resources.
Hardware and Software
Hoya Computing will help you find the optimal and most cost-effective hardware, software, and computing peripherals. New students, we advise that you visit the New Student Software and Hardware Requirements and Purchases prior to any purchase decision.
Getting a NetID
To log into University computer systems and online services, you will require a NetID.
New students should receive NetIDs and temporary NetID passwords in the mail as part of your registration packet.
Getting a GOCard
The University GOCard gives you access to a whole range of campus services and functions. It is both your identity card and your debit card. New students must apply online for a GOCard before arriving on campus. You will need your NetID to access GOCard services.
Connecting to the Internet
You can connect your computer to Georgetown University's Internet service through AirHoya (wireless), GUExpress (dial-up) or LAN jacks.
Getting E-mail
All Georgetown University students (except MSB students) receive GUMail e-mail accounts upon enrollment. Your University NetID is your GUMail user name and
your NetID is your password.
McDonough School of Business students are given GroupWise accounts instead of GUMail accounts. Contact the MSB Technology Center at (202) 687- 4721 or MSB-HELP@msb.edu for more information.
Law students are given LawMail accounts instead of GUMail accounts. Contact the Technology Reference Desk at studenthelp@law.georgetown.edu for more information.
Getting Calendar
All students (except MSB students and Law students) are granted accounts on the GUCalendar system. Using GUCalendar, you can mange your schedule, view course calendars, and set up meetings.

On-campus Phone, Voice Mail, and Cable
Georgetown provides phone, voice mail, and cable services for residence halls and university apartments, which must be activated. Students who live off campus should order phone and cable service through the provider of their choice. Your telephone number was mailed to your permanent address during the summer. You can look your number up by dialing the directory, (202) 784-HOYA, or checking Housing-at-a-Glance at http://housing.georgetown.edu/academic/.
Shared or individual voice mailboxes can be ordered through Student Access+. Please allow two business days for activation.
For cable, use the main jack (living room jack in apartments). Subscribe through Student Access+ to continue service after the preview period or to activate other jacks in your apartment. Activation fees ($25) are waived if you sign up for the service before September 11th.
Your Records: Student Access+
Using Student Access+ you can access your student records any time you wish. Student Access+ services allow you to register for classes, view your schedule, view your grades, view an unofficial transcript, subscribe to cable, voice mail, cable etc.
Blackboard
Blackboard is Georgetown University's Web-based course management system. Using Blackboard, you can receive and complete assignments and collaborate on class projects over the Internet.
Classroom Technology
Classroom Educational Technology Services (CETS) provides a variety of presentation (A-V) equipment and media to classrooms.
Computer Labs
Several computer labs operate on the university campus. Resources include academic software, commonly-used applications, and printers. Some are open for 24 hours a day.
McDonough School of Business students have different computer lab accounts than other

Electronic Research Tools
The Georgetown University Library, comprising Lauinger Library and Blommer Science Library in Reiss 302, provides a variety of electronic research tools.
