GU Apps: Configuring a Windows Mobile Device for GUCalendar

Before you Begin

Before you can set up GUCalendar on a Windows Mobile Device, you will need the following:

  • ActiveSync v4.5 (earlier versions are fine) 
  • Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows XP opearting system 
  • Microsoft Office 2003 with all patches and updates, and Oracle Connector for Outlook configured with GUCalendar  
  • Windows Mobile device with operating system version 2002-2005

 

Installing and Configuring ActiveSync

  1. Download the ActiveSync installer from the Hoya Computing Software Download page.
  2. Open the .exe file to begin installation.
  3. Click Next in the Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 welcome window.

 

  1. Accept the terms of the license agreement, and click Next.

 

  1. Type your name in the User Name field and Georgetown University in the Organization field and then click Next.

  1. Choose the Install Microsoft ActiveSync 4.5 default folder, or click Change to select another folder, and then click Next.

  1. Click Install to begin the installation.

 

  1. You will receive the following message confirming successful installation.

  1. Click Yes to restart your computer.

 

  1. Open ActiveSync.
  2. If you currently have a partnership, then you will need to delete it and create a new one. To delete the partnership, select Delete Partnership from the File menu, and then click Yes to confirm.

 

  1. Re-connect your handheld device to your computer. ActiveSync will prompt you to create a new partnership.
  2. Select Standard partnership and then click Next.

 

  1. Select the option Synchronize with this desktop computer, and then click Next.

 

  1. Select a name for your handheld device, and then click Next.
  2. Select the types of information you want to synchronize between your handheld device and your computer, and then click Next.

    Note: You don't have to select e-mail if you've set up your Windows Mobile device to connect directly with GUMail.

 

  1. Click Finish to exit the installation wizard. ActiveSync will automatically start a synchronization between your handheld device and your computer.
