GU Apps: Configuring BlackBerry for GUCalendar

Before You Begin

Before you can set up GUCalendar, you will need the following:

  • Microsoft Windows 2000 or Windows XP computer
  • Oracle Connector for Outlook (see installation instructions if not already installed and configured on your system)
    • Note: Outlook should only be used for viewing purposes in relation to GUCalendar.  To make changes to your agenda, please do so either through the desktop or web clients.  Using Outlook to manage your calendar can result in duplicate agenda items.
  • Microsoft Office 2003 with all patches and updates
    • Note: Oracle Connector for Outlook is incompatible with Microsoft Outlook 2007
  • BlackBerry handheld device
    • Note: These instructions do not apply to BlackBerry devices released after the 8700 series (this includes the Bold (9000), Storm (9530), Pearl (8100, 8200), 8800, and Curve (8300) series as of December 2008)

 

Downloading and Installing BlackBerry Desktop Manager 3.6

  1. Download BlackBerry Desktop Manager v3.6 from the Hoya Computing Software download Web page. Make sure to use only this version as other versions will not properly function with GUCalendar.
  2. Select BlackBerry Desktop Manager from the software list
  3. From the BlackBerry Desktop Manager download page, click the link to download the software.
  4. Select Save in the File Save As window.

  5. Open the .exe file.
  6. Click OK in the WinZip Self-Extractor pop-window.

  7. Click Next in the InstallShield Wizard Welcome window.

  8. Make sure USA (English) is selected and then click Next.

  9. Click Yes to accept the license agreement.

  10. Enter your name in the User Name text area, and then click Next.

  11. Select the Integrate with enterprise email account option, and then select Next.

  12. Select where you want BlackBerry Desktop Manager to be installed by either accepting the default location OR clicking Browse to select a new location. After you've selected a location, click Next.

  13. Enter a name for the program icon being created, and then click Next.

  14. Select the desired options for the Start menu and program shortcuts, and then click Next.

    The progress window appears showing installation has started.

  15. Click Finish.

 

Configuring the BlackBerry Desktop Manager

  1. Open the BlackBerry Desktop Manager.
  2. Connect the BlackBerry device to your computer. The computer will detect the device and load the necessary software drivers.
  3. Once the device installation is successful, select Options from the Menu bar, and then select Connection Settings.
  4. Select USB-PIN: xxxxxxx from the Connection drop-down list, and then click on the Detect button (the BlackBerry Device Manager will detect the BlackBerry device).
  5. Click OK to close the Connection Settings window.

 

  1. Double-click on Intellisync and select Configure PIM.
  2. Select the application and click the Choose button.

     

 

  1. Select MS Outlook from the Available Translators list. When the Folder Name field is populated, click OK.

If you receive a window prompting you to choose an application folder, make sure the appropriate Outlook application is selected under the Oracle account. Use the following chart to find out which Outlook applications correspond with the BlackBerry Desktop Manager:

  1. Once you have selected the application, click OK.
  2. Continue selecting the applications with which you want to sync Outlook until all the desired applications are set up.
  3. Once all conduits are configured, run a sync by clicking on the Synchronize Now button.
