How to Use Hoyamail: Composing and Sending a Message

  1. In Hoyamail, click on the Compose Mail link located to the left of your message list, above your labels. A compose window is displayed. (Note: Click on the icon at the far right of the composition window to have the composition window open in a new window.)

  2. In the To field, enter the e-mail address of each desired recipient. If you enter a name or e-mail address that Hoyamail recognizes, Hoyamail may provide suggestions on the correct address. Just select the address to add it, as shown in the example below.

If you're adding more than one address, insert a comma between each address.

  3. Add a copy or blind copy recipients if desired by clicking on the Add cc or Add Bcc links and then entering the addresses of the desired persons.
  4. Enter a subject in the Subject field.

  5. Enter your message in the composition area. Use the formatting toolbar above the composition area to format your message, or click on the Plain Text link to send your message in plain (unformatted) text. (Note: Formatted messages are larger in size than unformatted messages.)

  6. Click on the Save Now button if you want to save your message as a draft. Hoyamail will also save your message automatically at regular intervals to the Drafts label. (You should see a message at the top of your composition window, similar to the example shown below, stating that the message draft was saved includes the time your message was last saved.)

  7. If you want, add a file attachment to your message by doing the following:

Note: You can recieve messages from netid @ georgetown.edu (Georgetown e-mail accounts) up to 15MB in size, and send messages up to 25MB in size. However, you may not be able to send larger attachments to contacts who use other e-mail services with smaller attachment limits. If you send a larger attachment, your mail (attachment) may bounce.

    1. Click on the Attach a file link. The pop-up window "Select files(s) to upload by mail.google.com" is displayed.
    2. Navigate to the file you want to attach.
    3. Select the file(s) you want to attach:
      • To select a single file to attach, click on the file name.
      • To select multiple files to attach from the same location, press and hold down either the Ctrl key (Windows) or the Command key (Mac) while clicking on the desired files.
    4. Click Open (Windows) or Select (Mac) to attach the file. You should see the file name of your attachment under the Subject line.

    5. You can attach additional files by clicking on the Attach another file link. Continue adding files until you've added all the desired files as attachments.
  8. Click Send when you're ready to send your message. If Hoyamail was able to send your message, you will see Your message has been sent displayed at the top of the composition window.

  9. If you want to permanently delete the message without saving it (any drafts will be deleted), click on the Discard button.

Important: Hoyamail will not provide you with a confirmation before it deletes the message. Be sure you want to delete the message before you click Discard.
