Why isn't my bookmark to Hoyamail working? I'm receiving the error message Invalid IdP (HTTP 404).
This is because the URL of the bookmark created to the login page is unique to that Hoyamail session and will not work the next time you try to log in.
If you already have a bookmark created, display the properties of the bookmark, and change the location to be 'http://www.hoyamail.georgetown.edu'
Otherwise, the easiest way to create a bookmark for Hoyamail is to go to www.hoyamail.georgetown.edu, log in, and then follow your normal process for creating a new bookmark in your browser.
Why am I having problems accessing Hoyamail?
If you are able to successfully view and log into Hoyamail after clicking this Hoyamail Log In link, your bookmark to Hoyamail may not be correctly set up. Follow these instructions to correctly set up a bookmark to Hoyamail, or contact the Student Help Desk at techhelp @ georgetown.edu or 202-687-4577.
If you are not able to successfully view the Hoyamail log in page after clicking this Hoyamail Log In link, your computer may be blocked by your personal or work firewall. Please contact the Student Help Desk at techhelp @ georgetown.edu or 202-687-4577 for additional help in resolving this issue.
Why am I recieving error messages when sending to a Listproc?
To be able to send to a Listproc, the "From" address on your e-mails must be yournetid@georgetown.edu. Follow these instructions to set this up in Hoyamail.
I'm confused - is my e-mail address myNetid@georgetown.edu or myNetid@hoyamail.georgetown.edu?
E-mail addresses did not change with the switch to Hoyamail - your classmates, professors, and friends can and should continue to send you e-mail at yourNetID@georgetown.edu. YourNetID@georgetown.edu is automatically set up to deliver messages to your Hoyamail account.
You may have noticed you can receive e-mail in your Hoyamail account that's addressed directly to yourNetID@hoyamail.georgetown.edu. Although this address works, UIS strongly recommends you continue to provide yourNetID@georgetown.edu as your e-mail address to others.
You should follow these instructions so that messages sent from Hoyamail will display yourNetID@georgetown.edu as the From/Reply-to address on messages you send.
How is my Hoyamail account different than GMail accounts with which I'm already familiar?
- You will use a special Hoyamail login page to access your Hoyamail account. Even though you will use the same NetID and password for Hoyamail that you use for other Georgetown services, Google does not store or save your NetID password.
- Hoyamail is only accessible through the web at this time. Allowing desktop clients (such as Mac Mail, Outlook, or other PDA e-mail clients) access would have required sharing your NetID password with Google.
- You will not see advertising as part of the Hoyamail interface while you are a current student at Georgetown. Advertising will only appear after you become a Georgetown alumnus.
- We are launching Hoyamail as an e-mail only solution at this time. We will evaluate adding in other Google services such as Chat, Calendar, and docs as time and resources permit.

How can I use my PDA or a desktop client like Mac Mail or Outlook with Hoyamail?
Hoyamail is only accessible through the Web at this time. Allowing desktop clients access would have required sharing your NetID password with Google. If your PDA has a web browser, you should be able to direct it to http://www.hoyamail.georgetown.edu and access your e-mail.

Where are the ads and other applications on Hoyamail?
You will not see advertising as part of the Hoyamail interface while you are a current student at Georgetown. Advertising will appear after you become a Georgetown alumus.
We are launching Hoyamail as an e-mail only solution, and not opening access to other Google services such as Chat, Calendar, and Docs. We will evaluate adding these addtional services as time and resources permit.
How does Hoyamail meet Georgetown's data security requirements?
Google is never provided with your NetID password, and the solution meets FERPA guidelines.
Why do I have to explicitly log out of Hoyamail versus just closing my browser to protect my account?
Hoyamail establishes a login session that allows you to go about your work without repeated requests to enter your NetID and password. However, if you walk away from your computer without properly logging out (by clicking "Sign Out"), someone else can access your personal information and interact with Hoyamail as if they were you.
