How to Use Webmail: Sharing a Folder

  1. Log in to Webmail (https://gumail.georgetown.edu) with your NetID and password.
  2. Click on My Folders in the Mail navigation pane.

The My Folders pane is displayed.

  1. Find the folder you want to share.
  2. In the My Folders pane, click on the Edit icon (looks like a pencil) for that folder.

The Folder Edit pane is displayed.

  1. Confirm that the folder you want to share is displayed by checking that the folder's name appears next to Folder Edit at the top of the Folder Edit pane. In the example below, the folder jhoya shared info is displayed.

  1. In the Folder Edit pane, below the User heading, type the NetID of the person with whom you want to share the folder. In the example below, the user jhoya is about to share a folder with the user uistestx.

  1. Select the access level you want to grant for your folder. When you share GUMail folders, you can assign different access permissions to the users with whom you are sharing.  The following table lists and describes each access level:

      Read

This access permission allows the person with whom you are sharing your folder to see, open, and read messages in, and copy messages to, the folder. Select the Mail and Read boxes to assign this permission.

      Read and Write

This access permission allows the person with whom you are sharing your folder to read messages in the folder and send or forward messages from the folder.  The person with whom you are sharing your folder can also move or delete the messages in the folder.  Select the Mail, Read and Write boxes to assign this permission.

      Admin

This access permission allows the person with whom you are sharing your folder to have full ownership of the folder.  The person with whom you are sharing your folder will be able to read, write, delete, forward, and move messages in the folders.  The person with whom you are sharing your folder will also be able to change the permissions on the folder and create subfolders.  Select the Mail, Read, Write and Admin boxes to assign this permission.

Note: By default, you have full access (all access levels are selected) of your own folders, as shown in the screen example below for the user jhoya.

    1. Click Apply to share the folder and if you want to continue adding people with whom you want to share your folder. Click OK when you're finished sharing the folder with others. You will be returned to the My Folders pane.
    2. Click on My Folders in the Mail navigation pane again.
    3. Click on the Edit icon of the folder you've shared. The NetID of each person with whom you've shared the folder will be displayed.

    1. Notify each person that you've shared your folder with them. They can now subscribe to the shared folder to view its contents.
