How to use Thunderbird with GUMail: Using Templates

Why do something twice when you only have to do it once? If you find yourself sending the same (or similar) messages over and over, then it's time to create a template or two. If only the names and dates change on your daily memo, why retype the whole body of the message every day?

Creating a Template

  1. Start Thunderbird.
  1. Click on the Composition button (it's located in the toolbar at the top of the screen).
 
  1. This will open the Compose: window.
  1. Type the message that you want to re-use.

  1. When you're done typing your message, click on the File button.
 
  1. From the drop-down menu, click on Save As, then click on Template.

Turning a Message into a Template

  1. Open a message (it can be a message someone else has sent to you).

  1. Click on the File button.

  1. From the drop-down menu, click on Save As, then click on Template.

This will convert the message into a template you can re-use.

Using a Template

  1. When you want to use this template, find the Templates folder in your folder list and click it. 

  2. You'll see your template(s) on the right side. Double-click the one you want to use.

  1. This will open your message in the Compose: window (the same window you regularly use to write e-mail messages).

  1. Retype any information that needs to be updated, make sure the address is correct, then click on Send.
