Moving Messages

Server vs. Local storage

You can save your mail on the GUMail IMAP server, or you can save your mail locally (see
Understanding Local Mail if you want to learn more about this).

Your local mail folders are under Local Folders; folders for mail stored on the GUMail server appear under imap.georgetown.edu.

Creating Folders

  1. Right-click on imap.georgetown.edu (if you want to create a new server folder), or on Local Folders (if you want to create a new local folder), or on any existing folder (if you want to create a sub-folder).

  1. Then click on New Folder.
  1. This will bring up the New Folder window.
  1. Give your folder a name.

  1. Under Create as a subfolder of:, click on the down arrow and choose where you want this folder to go.
  • If you place it under imap.georgetown.edu, it will be on the server.
  • If you place it under Local Folders, it will be on the computer you are using at the moment.

  1. Click on the OK button.

Moving Messages

  1. To move a message from one mailbox to another, just click on the message and drag it to wherever you want it to go.
