How to use Thunderbird with GUMail: Deleting Messages

Moving messages to the Trash folder
Deleting messages from the Trash folder

Moving messages to the Trash folder

  1. Click on a message to highlight it.

  1. Then click on the Delete button (or press the delete key on your keyboard).

Note: You can select more than one message at a time by holding down the Ctrl key while you click.

This will move your message to your Trash folder. It is important to remember that while the files remain in your Trash folder, they continue to take up your e-mail quota space. If you don't want them taking up space, you must either permanently delete them, or move them to a local mailbox.

Deleting messages from the Trash folder

  1. Click on a message in the Trash folder, then press the delete key on your keyboard. This will completely, irrevocably delete the message.
  1. If you want to delete all messages in your Trash folder, click on File, then click on Empty Trash.

  1. This will remove all the messages in your Trash folder.
  1. After you've deleted messages from your trash, you must compact your folders to make sure the space is freed up.

  1. Click on File, then click on Compact Folders.
