How to Use Thunderbird 3: Exporting Your Address Book
Note: Even though Thunderbird will save your address book to a file, Thunderbird will still retain the original copy of the address book (it won't be deleted when you export it).
- In Thunderbird, click on the Address Book button.

The Address Book window is displayed.
- Select the address book you want to export.
- In the Address Book window, select Export from the Tools menu.

The Export Address Book window is displayed. In the following step, you'll save your address book as (export it to) a separate file.
- In the Address Book window, perform the following to export your address book to a file:
- Navigate to the directory where you want to save your address book file. (In the example below, the address book file is being saved to the Desktop.)
- Type a descriptive file name for your address book in the File name field. (In the example below, the address book file has been named "mycooladdresses.")
- Select LDIF from the Save as type drop-down list.
- Click on the Save button.

You've now saved your address book. You can now import the address book to another copy of Thunderbird on a different computer or to another e-mail program.
