How to Use Thunderbird 3: Editing a Mailing List

  1. In Thunderbird, click on the Address Book button in the toolbar.

  2. In the Address Book window, select the mailing list you want to edit. (In the example below, "English Lit Study Group" is selected), and then click on the Properties button.

The Mailing List window for the mailing list is displayed.

  3. If you want to remove a contact from your mailing list, perform the following steps: (To perform other editing tasks, proceed to step 4.)
    1. Select the listing of the person you want to remove.
    2. Click on the Delete button. (Note: You won't receive a warning message before Thunderbird deletes your contact, so be sure you want to delete the contact before you click Delete.)

      Notes:
    • Even if you remove a contact from your mailing list, the contact will still be listed in your Thunderbird address book.
    • You can also remove a contact from a mailing list by removing them from the address book; however, deleting them from the address book will remove them from all your other mailing lists in that address book.

  4. Edit your list as needed. Among your editing options are the following:
    1. Add a New Contact to your Mailing List
    2. Add an Existing Contact to Your Mailing List

Add a New Contact to Your Mailing List

Note: If you add a contact to your mailing list who is currently not in your address book, Thunderbird will insert that contact automatically into the address book as well.

  1. With the desired mailing list selected, click on the Properties button in the Address Book window.

  2. In the Mailing List window, type in the name or e-mail address of each contact you want to add to your mailing list. (You can add a person even if the person is not listed as a contact in your address book and if the person doesn't have a Georgetown e-mail account.)

  3. Click on the OK button when you've typed in all the desired contacts.

The new persons will be listed in the Address Book window, as shown in the example below.

Adding an Existing Contact to Your Mailing List

  1. Select your address book from the left side of the Address Book window. Your address book contacts will be displayed on the right side of the window.
  2. Select the contact you want to add to your mailing list, then click and drag the contact name to the mailing list name, as shown below. (In the following example, the contact "David Hilltop" is being added to the mailing list "English Lit Study Group.")

  3. Click on the mailing list name. The address book contact should appear as a contact in your mailing list.

Note: Even though your contact is now in your mailing list, the contact will continue to be included in the address book as well.
