How to Use Thunderbird 3: Setting up Thunderbird to Work with the Georgetown Directory

 

  1. Select Options from the Tools menu.






  2. In the Options window, click on the Composition button.






  3. Click on the Addressing tab.







  4. Make sure Local Address Books and Directory Server are selected (check marks should appear next to them).






  5. Click on the Edit Directories button.






  6. In the LDAP Directory Servers window, click on the Add button.






  7. In the General tab of the Directory Server Properties window, perform the following:
    1. Enter Georgetown Directory in the Name field.
    2. Enter directory.georgetown.edu in the Hostname field.
    3. Enter dc=georgetown,dc=edu in the Base DN field.
    4. Click on the Advanced tab.




  1. In the Advanced tab of the Directory Server Properties window, perform the following:
    1. Enter 300 for Don't return more than ___ results.
    2. Enter (objectclass=*) in the Search filter field.
    3. Click on the OK button.




    You should see the Georgetown Directory listing you just created, as shown in the example below.





  2. Click OK in the LDAP Directory Servers window.

  1. In the Options window, select Georgetown Directory from the Directory Server drop-down list, and then click OK.






  2. Click OK in the LDAP Directory Servers window.

  3. Click OK in the Options window.

 

You have now successfully set up Thunderbird to work with the Georgetown Directory. Now when you enter a name or e-mail address when composing a message, Thunderbird will automatically fill in the full name or address for you.
