E-mail Tags
This feature enables greater organization of your e-mails. In past versions, e-mail tags were known as labeling. You were able to label e-mail items with the five standard labels: ‘Important’, ‘Work’, ‘Personal’, ‘To Do’, and ‘Later’. e-mail tags, you can can now create your own custom tags and sort your e-mail by tags.

You can assign a tag either by right-clicking and choosing Tag from the context menu, or by using the Tag icon in the toolbar. If you don't see a Tag button in your toolbar, you may be using an older version that does not have this functionality. Go to Help menu and click on About Mozilla Thunderbird, which should tell you the version you are running. Version 2.0 and higher has Tag functionality.
Creating Custom Tags and Labeling E-mail with Tags
- To label an e-mail message with a non-standard tag, you must first create the tag by clicking the Tag icon, and opening the Tag drop-down menu; then select the New Tag... option.

- In the Create New Tag dialog box, label your new tag and allocate a color if you wish.

- You may continue to use the Tag icon to label your items OR you can right-click the message you wish to tag and select the appropriate tag from the menu.

Deleting Custom Tags
- To delete an exisiting tag, go to Tools/Options...
|

In the Options window select the Display icon. Select the tag you wish to remove, click Delete and OK.

- To sort your e-mail by tags, click the small select columns icon in the right hand corner.

- From the drop down menu select the tag option.

- To sort your email by tags, simply click on the tag option you created, and your e-mail will sort by tag.
