How to Use Microsoft Outlook 2007: Composing and Sending a Message

  1. In Outlook 2007, select Mail Message from the New menu.

    A composition window is displayed.

  2. In the To field, enter the e-mail address of each person to whom you want to send mail. As you type, Outlook 2007 may autofill the address or recipient's name, depending on which one Outlook 2007 recognizes first. Outlook 2007 may also display multiple names to suggest possible correct entries. In the example below, after typing "b", Outlook 2007 displayed the entry "Bonnie Bluegray", which is listed in the address book. To select any entry Outlook 2007 suggests, just click on that entry, as shown below.

The entry will appear in the To field.

To enter recipients using the Contacts List:
    1. Click on the To button. The Select Names: Contacts window is displayed.
    2. Select each person to whom you want to send the message. To select more than one entry at a time, hold down the Ctrl key (Windows) or Command key (Mac) while you click on each entry, and then release the key when you're done.
    3. Click on the To button add the names you selected, as shown below.

The names will appear at the bottom of the Select Names: Contacts window.

    4. Click OK when you're done adding names. The names you selected will appear in the To field of the composition window.

  3. Enter a descriptive name in the Subject field for the subject of your message. The subject will also appear in the title bar, as shown in the example below.

  4. Type your message in the composition area.

  5. Add a file to your message, if desired.

  6. Click on the Send button when you're ready to send your message.

  7. If the following pop-up window appears, enter your NetID password (enter your NetID if not already filled in), and then click OK to send the message.
