HOW TO USE MOZILLA WITH GUMAIL: CONFIGURING MOZILLA WHEN YOU DON'T HAVE A NETSCAPE PROFILE

If you didn't copy information from an existing Netscape profile when you installed Mozilla, you will have to fill in the information manually before you can get to your GUMail account.

  1. Start Mozilla, then click Window, then click on Mail & Newsgroups.
  1. The New Account Setup window will open.
 
  1. Click on Email account (a dot should appear beside it), then click on the Next button.
 

 

  1. Beside Your Name:, type your name (as you want it to appear in your e-mail).
 
  1. Beside Email Address:, type your georgetown e-mail address.
  1. Under select the type of incoming server, click on IMAP.

 

  1. Beside Incoming Server:, type imap.georgetown.edu

 

  1. Beside Outgoing Server:, type smtp.georgetown.edu

 

  1. Click on the Next button.
  1. Beside Incoming User Name: and Outgoing User Name:, type your University NetID.

 

  1. Then click on the Next button.

 

  1. Beside Account Name, type imap.georgetown.edu 

 

  1. Then click on the Next button.
  1. When the Congratulations window comes up, click on the Finish button.
  1. You'll be asked if you want to use Mozilla as your default mail program. This is up to you; click either the Yes or the No button.
  1. An alert will pop up, telling you that you can't connect to imap.georgetown.edu.

  1. Click on the OK button.
  1. This will open the Mail & Newsgroups window.
 
  1. Click on Edit, then click on Mail & Newsgroups Account Settings....
  1. Click on Server Settings in the left-hand column.

  1. Make sure the following information is filled in:
  • Beside Server Name, type imap.georgetown.edu
  • Beside Port, type 993.
  • Beside User Name:, type your University NetID.
  • Make sure there is a checkmark beside Use secure connection (SSL).
  1. Click on Outgoing Server (SMTP).

  1. Make sure the following information is filled in:
    • Beside Server Name, type smtp.georgetown.edu
    • Make sure there is a checkmark beside Use name and password.
    • Beside User Name:, type your University NetID.
    • under Use secure connection: click on SSL (a dot should appear beside it).
  1. Click on the OK button. Mozilla will now work with GUMail. You can close the preferences window and open your inbox.

Note: If you want to use the online Georgetown Directory (for address lookups) you will still need to Set Mozilla to use the Georgetown Directory.
