How to Use Mac Mail (OS X 10.4) with GUMail: Setting Up Spam Filters

  1. Open Mac Mail.
  1. Select Preferences from the Mail menu.
  1. Click on Rules located on the far right of the toolbar.

  1. Click on the Add Rule button.

  1. Type GU Spam in the text area to the right of Description.
  2. Click on the arrows next to From, and then select Edit Header List from the drop-down list.
  1. In the Message Headers pop-up window, click on the plus sign (+) button located at the bottom of the window.

  1. Type X-GU-Spam in the blank field.
  2. Click OK.

  1. Click again on the arrows next to From.
  2. Select X-GU-Spam from the drop-down list.
  1. Type Positive in the blank text area to the right of Contains.
  2. Click on the plus sign (+) button to the right of the text area where you typed Positive.

A second row of fields is created.

  1. Click on the arrows next to Any Recipient and then select X-GU-Spam from the drop-down list.

  1. Type Suspect in the blank field below Positive.

  1. Click on the arrows next to No mailbox selected and then select Junk from the drop-down list.

  1. Click OK.

  1. Click on the Yes button in the Apply rules pop-up window.

  1. Close the Rules window by clicking on the leftmost dot in the upper left corner of the window.
