How to use Mac OS X Mail (10.4) with GUMail: Using Rules
What are rules? |
Ever wish that all the mail sent from your friends would automatically go to a special folder called "Friends," or all the mail from your boss would go to the trash? Well, if you want to make these things happen, you can! Rules can process your incoming messages in several useful ways; you just have to learn how to use them. |

Before you begin using rules, you should have a general idea about how they work, and be familiar with some of their limitations: |
- Mac OS 10.4 Mail rules only work with Mac OS 10.4 Mail; they do not work with Mozilla Thunderbird, Microsoft Entourage, or other e-mail programs. Your rules will not work while Mac OS 10.4 Mail is not running.
- Rules will only work on the computer where you originally created them. If you check your mail from a computer that doesn't have your rules saved on it, all new incoming messages will arrive in your Inbox (they will not be processed according to your rules).
- If you are running Mac OS 10.4 Mail on two computers with the same rules at the same time, you will may get two copies of each e-mail that arrives.
