How to use Mac Mail (OSX 10.4) with GUMail: Deleting Messages

Moving messages to the Trash folder
Deleting messages from the Trash folder

Moving messages to the Trash folder

  1. Click on a message to highlight it.

  1. Then click on the Delete button (or press the delete key on your keyboard).

Note: You can select more than one message at a time by holding down the Apple key while you click.

This will move your message to your Trash folder. Your unwanted files will be out of your way, but you can still recover them if you need to; simply drag the wanted file(s) back out of the Trash folder. It is important to remember that while the files remain in your Trash folder, they continue to take up your e-mail quota space. If you don't want them taking up space, you must either permanently delete them, or move them to a local mailbox.

Deleting messages from the Trash folder

  1. Click on a message in the Trash folder, then press the delete key on your keyboard. This will completely, irrevocably delete the message.
  1. If you want to delete all messages in your Trash folder, click on Mailbox, then click on Empty Deleted Messages.

  1. This will completely remove all the messages in your Trash folder.
