Charlene Smithers

Charlene Smithers is responsible for all fiscal and administrative operations of the UIS Business Service Center (BSC), a Division of the Office of Information Services within UIS. Charlene ensures that administrative, personnel/payroll, billing, budgetary and financial, contract administration, facilities, procurement, asset management, and inventory services are delivered to UIS employees in an effective and efficient manner. In addition, she ensures that UIS financial and administrative policies and procedures comply with University, DC, state, and federal laws and requirements.

Prior to joining University Information Services in 1997, Charlene was a budget analyst in the Finance Office at Georgetown University Medical Center. Earlier, while employed with a Government Contractor, she held several positions in budget analysis. Charlene holds a B.S. in Statistics from Virginia Tech, the Professional Manager Certificate from Georgetown University, and a M.S. in Procurement and Contract Management from the University of Maryland, University College.

Charlene has represented Georgetown University at conferences sponsored by the National Association of College and University Business Officers (NACUBO) and the Association of College and University Telecommunications Administrators (ACUTA). She is currently a member of the University Services Fiscal Officers, Diversity Action Council, and several groups within UIS: Executive Leadership Committee, Budget Committee, Network Communications Summit, Human Resources Coordinating Committee, and the Senior Staff Products and Services Subcommittee.
