UIS Leadership Team
Christopher L. Parkin
Associate Director, Production Services
Network and Computing Services
A 1980 graduate of Dartmouth College with a B.A. in Physics, Chris came to Georgetown University in 1985 after working as a systems programmer for the United States Army Computer Systems Command. In prior positions at GU, he has managed a variety of teams within University Information Services.
Chris's current leadership efforts are focused on the management of data center infrastructure (DCIM) and the continuous improvement of Production Services. Production Services maintains a stable, reliable, efficient production environment in support of the UIS mission and goals. It has three divisions: Operations, Application Services and Infrastructure Management. Operations monitors GU's major data centers and maintains the 7x24 production environment, including off-site tape rotation, enterprise print services, monitoring enterprise alarms and alerts, on-call and escalation functions, and continuity of operations. Application Services runs the UIS Change Control procedure and the enterprise job scheduling software. Infrastructure Management ensures the reliable delivery of power, cooling, structured cabling, connection management, rack space, fire suppression and physical security in the enterprise data centers. Production Services also participates in the larger NCS procedures for asset management, resource allocation and provisioning control. Chris enjoys providing UIS Change Control training.
Chris is a native of the DC metropolitan area. He lives near downtown Silver Spring in the house that his family has owned since 1950 where he takes great delight in parenting his two children.
