UIS Leadership Team
Scott Allen
Associate Director
Network and Computing Services
Scott Allen has been responsible for the UIS Server and Network Services (SNS) team and enterprise server systems since 1999. Working with UIS and University constituencies, the SNS team provides systems administration and technical support for approximately 150 enterprise servers on the Georgetown campus and the GU disaster recovery site in Sterling Forest, N.Y. Scott's challenges in this area include regular replacement of infrastructure, keeping his staff up to date, and maintaining a constant security focus.
The SNS team also develops network services such as the University email system GUMail, the NetID Directory, Enterprise File Services, and Web Services. From 1999 through 2002, Scott was Project Manager for the GUMail system and worked with the community to identify a viable solution for a replacement email system. Scott now serves as Project Manager for the Windows Active Directory infrastructure program that seeks to integrate Windows server and desktop networking with the Enterprise Directory. Outside of Georgetown, Scott has developed working relationships with technicians throughout the Washington D.C. area to promote discussion and sharing of ideas.
In 1987, Scott was involved in bringing the Internet to Georgetown. He also was instrumental in introducing the University's first Web server in the early 1990's to host the English department's Labyrinth site. Scott holds an AAS Degree in Computer Programming and Systems from Mohawk Valley College in N.Y.
Scott is married, has one child, and lives in Olney, Maryland.
