The Departments of UIS & OIS: Projects and Initiatives

UIS and OIS have been involved with many projects in collaboration with other academic departments and institutions.

Current Projects:

  • GridsWatch

    Gridswatch is a pilot portal which aims to provide a current and ongoing information distribution channel for national and international grid projects through an academic portal that appends and summarizes latest information about grid and grid-related (HPC) projects worldwide.

  • The caBIG Project

  • Project Sentinel

  • Georgetown University and the Emergency Departments of Georgetown University Hospital and MedStar Washington Hospital Center are working to build and deploy a "data-centric collaboratory". This collaboratory,called the Project Sentinel Collaboratory, is funded by the National Library of Medicine.Its main function is to collect and analyze data from various sources like hospitals, clinics, etc and develop indications and warnings of emerging threats to humans.

  • CIO Speaker Series: November 2005

  • Open Source Summit: October 17-18, 2002

    UIS was deeply involved in the "Open Source Summit: Public Interest and Policy Issues." This summit, which took place at the Marriott Conference Center on the Georgetown campus, brought together several leading figures in software development and academic and research technology. OIS's own H. David Lambert, VP & CIO, was one of two panelists in the final discussion, "Where To Go From Here: Charting a Course for the Future of Open Source."

  • AJCU 2002

    April 7-10, 2002 Georgetown hosted the joint Library and IT Managers Meeting of the Association of Jesuit Colleges and Universities (AJCU).

    The conference brought together managers from Jesuit colleges and universities around the country and even from Mexico to share knowledge, experience, and ideas for enhancing services, systems, and communication on their home campuses. Read this E-Notes article for more details.
