SaxaNet Secure Wireless Network

Not in the Harris Building? You are still on AirHoya Wireless.  Set up your computer to connect today.

SaxaNet Secure Wireless Network provides over-the-air access to the university network and the Internet. It eliminates the need for data jacks and cables, allowing for truly mobile computing. Data is transmitted over radio waves between your computer and special access points. Your wireless signal is encrypted, securing your connection against eavesdropping.

The Basics

SaxaNet is available to all members of the university community, including students, faculty, staff, and other affiliates. You must have an active NetID and know your NetID password to connect. There are no service charges for individuals to use SaxaNet. Individual users or departments may need to purchase 802.11b- and WPA-compatible wireless cards for devices.

GuestNet provides limited Internet access for guests and other users without NetIDs. Connections are not protected by encryption.  GuestNet users can only access web sites (HTTP and HTTPS).  There are only a limited number of GuestNet connections in each building; see the locations list for specific numbers.  If you have a NetID, please use SaxaNet instead.

Locations

SaxaNet and GuestNet are currently available in the buildings listed below.  They will replace AirHoya at other campus wireless locations later this year.

Requirements

SaxaNet supports any device that complies with the 802.11b WiFi and WPA authentication standards. (GuestNet does not require WPA.) Although many operating systems and client applications can be used to configure and connect with a wireless device, UIS only provides support for Windows XP and Mac OS X. Step-by-step setup instructions are available for these operating systems.

Reporting Problems

If you have trouble setting up your connection or using SaxaNet or GuestNet in an area listed above, please be sure report it to your HelpDesk by calling or sending an e-mail message. Please note as specifically as possible the time when and location where you had your problem.  Though we can't guarantee we can solve your problem immediately, your problem reports will help us to keep SaxaNet and GuestNet up and running well.
