SLOW NETWORK CONNECTION: SETTING NETSCAPE CACHE ON A MAC (OS X 10.2)

Netscape stores copies of frequently used Internet files in a special folder called a cache. Storing these copies helps some Web pages load faster, but if your cache becomes too full, it will actually slow down your connection instead of speeding it up.

Cleaning out temporary Internet files and setting the cache size in Netscape

  1. Start Netscape.
  1. Clickon Netscape, then clickon Preferences.
  1. This will bring up the Preferences window.

  1. On the left-hand side of the panel, beneath Advanced, clickon Cache. (If you don't see Cache, clickon the triangle beside Advanced.)
  1. Clickon the Clear Memory Cache and the Clear Disk Cache buttons.
  1. Make sure Disk Cache is set no larger than about 20 MB.
  1. Clickon the OK button.
