HOW TO USE REMOTE ACCESS

What is Remote Access?
Remote access is the ability to use Georgetown University Web-based services from off-campus locations. While on campus, it is quite easy to check your e-mail or get on the Internet. But sometimes you may want to check your e-mail, or use one of the University's Web-based services from an off-campus location that doesn't have Internet access. To do this, you will need some method of remote access.

All current Main Campus, Medical Center, and Central Services faculty, staff, and students* have two choices for remote access:

  • GUExpress is a free service that allows you to dial in to a local number (202 area code) and use the Internet from an off-campus location.
  • There may be times when you wish to use your own ISP instead of relying on GUExpress.

Currently, our remote access options will not give you access to files stored on the University network (such as work you've saved on your home drive), but they will let you get on the Internet, check your e-mail, and perform other useful tasks.

*Law Center faculty, staff, and students who are interested in remote access should contact the Law Center Information Systems and Technology (IST) Department. All aspects of information technology for the Georgetown University Law Center Campus community are planned, managed, and supported by the Law Center IST Department.
