Creating a new dial-up connection in Windows XP |
Before you begin, make sure the modem you want to use is configured correctly. The proper configuration of your modem depends on its manufacturer and the system you are using. If you've used your modem to connect to the Internet, it should be fine. If you've never used your modem before, check the instruction manuals that came with it. |
- Click the Start button on your taskbar.
- This will bring up a menu of choices.
Note: You may see smaller icons, or a plain list, depending on what viewing option you've chosen.
- Double Click on Control Panel.
 | |
- This will bring up the Control Panel; Double Click on Network and Internet Connections.
 | |
- You'll be asked to pick a task; Double Click on Create a new connection to the network at your workplace.
 | |
- You will now see the first of several New Connection windows.

- Click on the circle beside Dial-up Connection (a green dot should appear in the circle), then Click on the Next button.

- Under Company Name, Type Georgetown University. Then Click on the Next button.

- Under Phone number, Type 202-333-5609. Then Click on the Next button.
Note: If you use call waiting, Type *70,202-333-5609. This will disable your call waiting and allow you to connect properly. |
- You should now see a final New Connection window stating that you've successfully created a new connection.

- If you want to create a desktop icon for this connection, Click on the box beside Add a shortcut to this connection to my desktop (a green checkmark should appear in the box). Click on the Finish button.
