Setting up and using GUExpress on Windows 95 or 98

Part II: Connecting to Georgetown

If you are not using Windows 95 or 98, use the buttons on the left to choose the operating system you are using.

Once you have created a dial-up connection and connected to Georgetown, you can Launch Netscape Communicator and use the Internet or access your GUMail account just as you would from your office computer. While using GUExpress, you may sometimes find it convenient to work offline.

Connecting to Georgetown with Windows 95 or 98

  1. After creating a Dial-up connection for GUExpress, Double Click the My Computer icon on your desktop, then Double Click on Dial-Up Networking
  1. You will now see a dial-up connection for Georgetown University.

Note: To create a desktop shortcut for this connection, Right Click on Georgetown University. This will bring up a menu. Click on Create Shortcut. When a window pops up asking if you want to place a shortcut on the desktop, Click on the Yes button.

  1. Double Click on Georgetown University.
  1. This will bring up the Connect To window.
  1. Beside User name, Type your NetID.
  1. Beside Password, Type your NetID password.
  1. Click on Connect.
  1. A status box will pop up while the connection is being made.

 

Note: You may see a window asking you to enter a Windows password.

If you see this window, just Click on the Cancel button.
  1. Then you will see a window letting you know that the connection has been established.

  1. Click on the Close button. (This will simply close the window; you won't lose your connection.) 
  1. You are now connected to Georgetown University and you're ready to go to your GUMail account.
