Setting up and using GUExpress on Mac OS 9 (or earlier)
Part I: Creating a new dial-up connection
If you are not using
Mac OS 9 (or earlier), use the links on the left to choose the operating system you are using.
Once you have
created a dial-up connection and
connected to Georgetown, you can
LaunchNetscape Communicator and use the Internet or access your
GUMail account just as you would from your office computer. While using GUExpress, you may sometimes find it convenient to
work offline.
Creating a new dial-up connection in Mac OS 9 (or earlier)
Double Click the
Macintosh HD icon on your desktop.
This will bring up the
Macintosh HD window.
Note: Your window may look slightly different or have different icons or files.
Double Click on
System Folder.
This will bring up the
System Folder window.
Double Click on
Control Panel.
You will see the
Control Panel window.
Double Click on
Remote Access.
This will bring up the
Remote Access control panel window
Click on
File. This will bring up a menu.
Click on
Configurations...
The
Configurations window will appear.
Click the
Duplicate... button.
This will bring up a
Duplicate Configuration dialogue box.
TypeGeorgetown in the
Duplicate "Default" as: field.
ClickOK.
This will return you to the
Configurations window. The window will contain both the
Default and the
Georgetown configurations.
ClickMake Active.
You will now see the
Remote Access control panel window again.
Make sure the
Registered User option is selected.
Next to
Name:,
Type your
UniversityNetID.
Next to
Password:,
Type your
University NetID password.
Next to
Number:,
Type 333-5609.
Note: If you use call waiting,
Type*70,333-5609. This will disable your call waiting and prevent you from disconnected if you receive another phone call while you are on-line.
Click on
File, then
Click on
Close.
You have now created a dial-up connection for GUExpress; see
Connecting to Georgetown if you need help connecting to the University network.
