AirHoya Wireless Network provides over-the-air access to the university network and the Internet. It eliminates the need for data jacks and cables, allowing for truly mobile computing. Data is transmitted over radio waves between your computer and special access points.

The Basics

All members of the university community, including students, faculty, staff, and other affiliates, can use AirHoya. No special accounts or provisioning are required. There are no service charges for individuals to use AirHoya. Individual users or departments may need to purchase 802.11b-compatible wireless cards for devices.

AirHoya is available in multiple locations around campus. Although you may be able to connect in other locations, access is not guaranteed or supported outside of the areas where UIS has planned service. Check the AirHoya locations listing for specific areas.

AirHoya supports any device that complies with the 802.11b standard. Although many operating systems and client applications can be used to configure and connect with a wireless device, UIS only provides support for Windows XP and Mac OS X. Step-by-step setup instructions are available for these operating systems.

Reporting Problems

If you have trouble connecting or getting a signal in an area listed in AirHoya's covered locations, please be sure report it to your HelpDesk by calling or sending an e-mail message. You can also use the problem report form to reach us outside of our business hours.  Please note as specifically as possible the time when and location where you had your problem.  Though we can't guarantee we can solve your problem immediately, your problem reports will help us to keep AirHoya up and running well.

Although you may be able to connect in other locations, access is not guaranteed or supported outside of the areas where UIS has planned service. See the FAQ entry about wireless coverage for more information.
