AirHoya: Getting Started with a Palm TX Handheld

Requirements

  • Palm TX Handheld with built-in wireless card 

Though it is not required to access the AirHoya (HOYAS) network, we encourage you to download and install the Palm TX Enterprise Security Update.  Current faculty, staff, and students can download the update for free from the UIS Software Database.

Configure the Palm TX to Connect to AirHoya

  1. Turn on the Palm TX.

  2. On the Status Bar at the bottom of the screen, tap the Wi-Fi button.

    If this is the first time you've tried to use wireless on your Palm TX, you may be prompted to turn on the radio and scan for networks. If so, tap Yes and continue at step 4 below.
 
  1. Set the Wi-Fi drop-down menu to On.

  2. Tap the Scan/Setup... button.

  3. In the Wi-Fi Networks screen, tap the Edit... button, then tap Add... in the menu that pops up to open the New Wi-Fi Network screen.
 
  1. In the Network Name (SSID) field type HOYAS in all capital letters.

  2. Make sure Security is set to Open (or None is you haven't installed the Palm TX Enterprise Security Update).

    Note: If Open does not appear as a choice, and you see None instead, then you do not have the Palm TX Enterprise Security Update installed.  See the top of the page for alink to download and installation information.

  3. Tap OK to save your changes.
 
  1. If prompted "Would you like to connect to 'HOYAS' now?", tap Yes.  You should see a few status screens as you Palm connects.

Use the AirHoya Wireless Network!

Your should now be able to use AirHoya with your Palm TX. You will need to turn on the Palm Wi-Fi service whenever you want to connect.  Some Internet applications, like the Blazer Web browser, may start the wireless service automatically when needed.  Whenever you turn the Wi-Fi service on in an area covered by AirHoya, your Palm TX will automatically connect.

  1. On the Status Bar at the bottom of the screen, tap the Wi-Fi button.
  2. If necessary, select HOYAS from the Network drop-down menu.
  3. Tap the Connect or Disconnect button as necessary.
