AirHoya: Getting Started with Your Wireless Device

You can use any wireless network card or device that is compatible with the 802.11b wireless standard to connect to AirHoya, not just Windows XP and Macintosh OS X computers. However, for nearly every unique device that can connect to AirHoya, there is a unique set of setup instructions. Use the information below in conjuction with your user manual to connect your non-Windows XP/OS X device to AirHoya.

Requirements

  • Laptop computer, PDA, or other portable computing device
  • An 802.11b-compatible network adapter card designed for your computer, PDA, or computing device

Some computers and PDAs have a built-in wireless adapter or come with one you can install yourself. Check to make sure you actually need a separate adapter before you buy one.

Install the Wireless Card

To install a wireless adapter card, follow the setup instructions that came with it. Be sure to install any drivers or utility applications that came with your card. If you run into trouble, contact the wireless adapter manufacturer.

Configure your Device to Connect to AirHoya

Follow the instructions that came with your wireless adapter card or wireless device. You will need to specify the following information:

Network Name (SSID)

HOYAS

Be sure to enter the network name in all capital letters. The network name is case-sensitive

Encryption

None

AirHoya does not use any encryption. You won't be able to connect if you have this feature turned on.

You should be able to leave any other settings for your card or device alone.

Use the AirHoya Wireless Network!

Your should now be able to use AirHoya. Consult your wireless adapter card's or wireless device's user manual for directions on connecting when you are in an area covered by AirHoya.
