HOME » CONNECTING » AIRHOYA WIRELESS AirHoya: Restrictions on Sending E-mail over AirHoyaAre you having trouble sending e-mail messages on AirHoya? If you are using an e-mail program and a non-Georgetown e-mail service (such as Comcast, Verizon, or Earthlink) to send messages, you are probably running up against a security measure meant to stop virus-generated spam. In order to stop virus-generated spam coming from infected computers on the AirHoya wireless network, UIS does not allow computers to connect to non-Georgetown outgoing e-mail (SMTP) servers. If you use an e-mail program like Mozilla Thunderbird or Microsoft Outlook and connect to a non-Georgetown SMTP server to send e-mail, you cannot send messages while you are connected to AirHoya. Use Web-based Mail InsteadIf your e-mail service provider has a Web interface for reading and sending mail, you can use it to send e-mail messages when you use AirHoya. Web interfaces should not be affected by the SMTP restriction. This is the easiest alternative as it does not require you to reconfigure anything. Use Georgetown's SMTP ServiceIf you are a current student or employee with a NetID and password, you can use Georgetown's own SMTP server to send messages. You will need to change the outgoing server setting in your e-mail program. The basic settings for sending e-mail are:
Use the links below to see configuration instructions for UIS' recommended e-mail programs. Note: You only need to change the settings related to the SMTP server.
