AirHoya: Ignore Interference from Ad Hoc Networks

Do you sometimes have trouble connecting to the Internet even though your computer says it's connected to the AirHoya wireless network?  You may be running into interference from other computers incorrectly advertising themselves as entry points AirHoya.  You can can tell your computer to ignore this interference with a quick settings change.

Windows XP

  2. Right-click on Wireless Network Connection. Then click Properties.

If there is more than one connection, look for the one with a Device Name that matches your wireless card (the device name will appear when you hover over the connection with your mouse).

  3. This will bring up the Wireless Network Connection Properties window.  Click on the Wireless Networks tab.

  4. Click on the Advanced button.

  5. Make sure Access point (infrastructure) networks only is selected.

  6. Make sure Automatically connect to non-preferred networks is not checked.

  7. Click on the Close button, then click on the OK button in the Wireless Network Connection Properties window.
