How to use Oracle Calendar: Introduction to Resource Calendars

What's a resource?
Things like conference rooms, loaner equipment, and vehicles can have their own calendars in the GUCalendar system. Since they're not people, they are called resources.

How do I book a resource?
You can open up a resource's agenda in GU Calendar to see when it may be available. You reserve a resource by "inviting" it to an appointment, just like you would invite another person.

How do I create a resource?
Use the online request form. When a resource is created for you, UIS will assign a unique name that follows our naming guidelines.

How do I manage a resource?
When the resource account is created, you will be provided with a name and password for the resource. Your personal Oracle Calendar account will have full designate rights to the resource. You will be referred to as the "manager" of the resource. A resource can only have one manager. However, you can assign other users to have full designate access rights to the resource calendar, which will give them the same authority as the manager.

What are access rights?
Access rights are permission levels that help you determine what others can see and do when they try to access the resource calendar. Designate rights are the most powerful, they allow you to fully manage the calendar resource and determine who will have access. Scheduling rights are used to permit others to add, remove, or change appointments on the resource calendar. Viewing rights allow others to simply view the agenda (appointments) on the resource calendar. No rights means that the person cannot see the agenda or schedule any appointments on the resource calendar.

Who do I give access rights to?
You can assign access rights to any other GUCalendar user. The GUCalendar also has a "default user." Think of the default user as "everybody else," which represents anyone in the GUCalendar system that you have not already assigned special access rights. For example, if you wanted only two people to make appointments on the resource calendar, you would assign these two users with "Scheduling rights," then assign "No access rights" to the default user.
