How to use Oracle Calendar: New Installations

 

Overview

There are three steps required to install Oracle Calendar. First, you're going to download a file (it's called cal_win_9042.exe) from our Web site. Then you're going to run that file to install it on your computer. In the last step, you will create a connection to the GUCalendar server.

  1. Use your University NetID and password to log in to the UIS Software Database.
  1. Select Oracle/GUCalendar 9.0.4.2 for Windows from the list.
  1. Click on the Select Software button.
  1. Click on Download for free.
  1. You'll be asked where you want to save the file. Your desktop is a good place.  Click on Desktop in the left-hand side of the window.

 

  1. Then click on the Save button.
  1. If you're running any applications, close them.
  1. Find the cal_win_9042.exe file on your desktop (or wherever you just saved it).

 

  1. Double Click on it.
  1. This will bring up the Welcome window. 

 

  1. Click on the Next button.
  1. The Destination Folder window will appear.

 

  1. You will be asked to choose where you would like this program to be installed. Accept the default location by clicking on the Next button.
  1. You'll see the Ready to Install window.

 

  1. Click on the Install button and the program files will be loaded onto your computer. 
  1. You'll see a status bar showing you the progress of the transfer.
  1. When all the files are installed, you will see the Completed window.  

 

  1. Click on the Finish button. This will complete your installation.

Creating a connection for the first time

  1. Click on the Start button on your task bar (it's probably at the bottom of your screen). 

 

  1. This will bring up a menu. Click on All Programs; this will bring up a sub-menu. 

 

  1. Click on Oracle Calendar 9.0.4; this will bring up another sub-menu. Click on Oracle Calendar 9.0.4 in this sub-menu.

 

  1. A Sign-In window will appear.

 

  1. Click on the Other button.
  1. This will bring up the Connection Manager window.

 

  1. Click on the New button.
  1. The Connection Editor window will appear.

 

  1. Beside Connection Name, type GUCalendar.

 

  1. Beside Server, type calendar.georgetown.edu

 

  1. Then Click on the Lookup button.
  1. This will bring up the Connection Configuration window.

 

  1. Make sure there is a dot beside Configure at login from user name.

 

  1. Click on the Configure button.
  1. This will bring you back to the Connection Manager window. Click on the OK button.
  1. Click on the down arrow, then click on GUCalendar.

 

  1. Make sure your name appears beside User Name.

 

  1. Enter your University NetID password. Then click on the Sign-in button.
  1. You may be asked if you would like to have an off-line agenda. The answer is usually No.*

Note: When you are finished with your installation, you may remove the cal_win_9042.exe file from your desktop (or wherever you stored it).
