How To Use Calendar Sync For Pocket PC with GUCalendar: Installing and Configuring

Part I: Installing Calendar Sync

  1. Make sure that ActiveSync is installed on your PC (it should appear in your Start menu, or in the Add/Remove Programs panel).

Note: ActiveSync comes with the PocketPC device; if you never installed it on your computer, you should install it now, following the instructions that came with it.

  1. Make sure that Calendar Time and Internet Explorer are not currently open on your computer (if they are running, close them).
  1. Place your PDA in its cradle and Run the Setup program that you downloaded from the UIS Software Database. A few different screens will appear as the setup program extracts its files.
  1. When the Welcome screen appears, click on the Next button.
  1. At the Destination Folder screen, click on the Next button to accept the default folder.
  1. At the Setup Type screen, click on Complete (a dot should appear beside it), then click on the Next button.
  1. When the Ready
    to Install the Program
    screen appears, click on the Install button.
  1. The Setup program will begin installing files to your computer.
  1. The Setup program may need you to close certain programs running on your computer. Close any programs indicated, then click on the Retry button.
  1. When you are prompted to install "Oracle Calendar Sync Helper Files," click on the Yes button.

  1. The Setup program will begin installing files to your PDA.
  1. If you receive an Application Downloading Complete box, click on the OK button. You should not need to do anything on your PDA.

Part II: Setting up Calendar Sync

  1. Within a few seconds, the Synchronization Settings screen will appear. You must fill in the following information:

Beneath User, type your NetID

Beneath Password, type your NetID password

Beneath Server, type calendar.georgetown.edu

Beneath Node, enter your campus node:

  • Main Campus users, type main
  • Medical Center users, type med
  • Student users, type student
  1. Click on Calendar in the left-hand side of the window, and change any settings you wish.

Synchronized Refused Events: Controls whether appointments sent to you that you have declined will be copied to your PDA calendar.

Add Attendee names to Notes: Copies the names of other members of a group appointment to the appointment's notes field on your PDA calendar.

Limit Details: Controls how much of an appointment's details will be copied to your PDA calendar. This can prevent appointments with extensive details from taking up too much space on your PDA.

  1. Click on the plus sign [+] next to Calendar, then click on Date Range.

  1. Adjust the date range options to control what appointments are copied to your PDA calendar.
  1. Click on Tasks in the left-hand side of the window, then change any settings you wish.

Limit Details: Controls how much of a task's details will be copied to your PDA calendar. This can prevent tasks with extensive details from taking up too much space on your PDA.

  1. Click on the plus sign [+] next to Tasks, then click on Date Range.

  1. Adjust the date range options to control what tasks are copied to your PDA calendar.
  1. Click on Contacts in the left-hand side of the window, then change any settings you wish.

Limit Details: Controls how much of a contact's details will be copied to your PDA calendar. This can prevent contacts with extensive details from taking up too much space on your PDA.

  1. Click on Rules in the left-hand side of the window.

Choose what you want CorporateSync to do if it encounters an item that has been changed both on your PDA and in your GUCalendar account since your last ActiveSync session.

  1. When you have finished reviewing the Synchronization Settings panels, click on the OK button.
  1. At the Wizard Completed screen, click on the Finish button.

Part III: Setting Up ActiveSync

Before you can use Calendar Sync, you will need to delete your current ActiveSync partnership and create a new one that uses Calendar Sync.

  1. Remove your PDA from its cradle and start ActiveSync.
  1. Click on File, then click on Delete Partnership. When asked for confirmation, click Yes.
  1. Place your PDA back in its cradle.

  1. ActiveSync will prompt you to create a new partnership. Click on Standard Partnership, then click on the Next button.

 

  1. At the Specify how to synchronize data screen, click on Synchronize with this desktop computer, then click on the Next button.

  1. If you see the Select Number of Partnerships screen, decide whether you will be synchronizing only with this computer.

  • If this is the only computer you currently use to synchronize your PDA, click on Yes, then click on the Next button.

  • If you currently synchronize your PDA with another computer (like a laptop or home computer), click on No, then click on the Next button.
  1. At the Select a Personal Information Manager screen, choose the programs with which you want to synchronize the information on your PDA. UIS recommends that you not use Oracle Calendar Sync to synchronize Contacts.

  1. Click on the Next button when you are finished.
  1. At the Select Synchronization Settings window, choose the different components that you want to synchronize.

  1. Click on the Next button when you are finished.

  1. At the Setup Complete window, click on the Finish button.
  1. ActiveSync will begin synchronizing your PDA.
