HOW TO USE HUMMINGBIRD HOSTEXPLORER 8.0: INSTALL FROM A CD

  1. Which version am I using?

  2. Uninstall old HostExplorer

  3. Install HostExplorer 8.0

  4. Install SSL add-on

  5. Set up HostExplorer 8.0

Install Hummingbird HostExplorer 8.0 from CD

When you install Hummingbird HostExplorer 8.0 from CD, you have the full functionality of the Hummingbird software you have used in the past. You can obtain the CD for Hummingbird HostExplorer 8.0 from Hoya Computing. If you only need a terminal session, you may wish to try the Web delivered version of HostExplorer.

After you install HostExplorer 8.0, you will need to continue by installing the SSL add-on:

You will need the HostExplorer CD from Hoya Computing to install HostExplorer 8.0

How to install HostExplorer 8.0

Before you begin, close any documents and exit any programs that are open on your computer. Make sure you have the HostExplorer CD from Hoya Computing.

  1. Click Start (this will bring up a menu), then click Programs (this will bring up another menu), then click Internet Explorer (this will launch Internet Explorer). 

  1. Type http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com as the URL.  Press Enter after typing.
  1. Follow the instructions on the page to scan your computer for updates and install all critical updates.  You may have to restart your computer several times to obtain all of the critical updates.
  1. After you have installed all of the critical updates from Microsoft, insert the Hummingbird HostExplorer 8.0 CD from Hoya Computing in your computer's CD drive.
  1. Double click the My Computer icon on your desktop. (This will open the My Computer window).

  1. Double click the CD drive icon (this will open the window for your CD).

  1. Double click the HostExplorer folder (this will open the HostExplorer window).

  1. Locate the MSetup.exe file. Double click the MSetup.exe file to start the setup program.

  1. Click the words Install HostExplorer

  1. On the next screen that appears click Personal Installation.

  1. When asked to select a language, click OK (this will begin the installation).

  1. When the Welcome Screen for the Hummingbird Setup Wizard appears, click Next.

  1. Accept the license agreement by clicking the radio button.  Then click Next.

  1. Make no changes on this next screen.  Click Next.

  1. Click the radio button next to CustomClick Next.

  1. On the following screen, click the plus (+) sign next to Install Options.  Then click the down arrow next to Hummingbird Connectivity Desktop Icon.  From the list that appears click This feature will not be available.

  1. Repeat the same for Hummingbird Neighborhood Desktop Icon.

  1. When your screen looks like this example, click next.
  1. You may now click Install (it may take a few minutes for the installation to complete).
  1. When this screen appears, the installation is complete.  Click Finish.

  1. You must restart your computer after installing the files. Click Yes on this screen.
  1.  Remember to Install the SSL add-on.
